Canopy Education & Aberdeen City council partnered to enhance teaching & learning by bolstering professional learning. The goal was to develop teachers & support staff confidence in the use of Google Workspace tools.
About Aberdeen City Council
Aberdeen City Council represents the Aberdeen City area of Scotland & serves over 24,500 students. More than 1,800 educators teach in ACC’s 11 secondary schools, 2 special schools & 48 primary schools. ACC aims to reduce inequalities in educational outcomes by fostering lifelong learning to benefit every individual in the city.
The Challenge
With more than 1,800 educators spread across 61 schools, Aberdeen City Council needed on-demand, bite-sized professional learning to develop staff’s competency & efficiency in Google Workspace for education. Educators' digital fatigue, heavy workload, disparate Google experience & varied new staff start dates were key considerations in shifting from webinar-style delivery.
The Solution: Workspace Skills
Workspace Skills is a series of Interactive Tutorials that train educators to optimise Google Workspace for Education. Deployed via Google Classroom, the tutorials provide short, anytime, anywhere self-paced accessible learning. Educators' ability is tracked with efficiency & competency scores. Earning digital badges for completed tutorials drives staff engagement & enjoyment of the training.
The Results
ACC deployed Workspace Skills. The high rate of tutorial completion was high as educators were excited to earn digital badges. Success stories inspired others. Increased digital confidence led to an uptake in further accreditation with staff completing the Google Certified Educator Exams. Competency & efficiency scores showcased how educators saved time by learning advanced skills.
